Fury

First, the warning is
swirling tentacles
of mist and vapour,
creeping 'cross the azure bliss.
Innocent they appear
wanderers in the sky
desiring nothing.
Inching, wisping, crawling near.
Gathering together
into a rolling mass
their approach belied..
as sentinels of the nether.
Growling, they rumble on,
cast a darkling shroud
upon the earth below
until all luminance is gone.
Then, from stillness true,
the first bolt strikes,
an unbidden revelation
rending the world apart in two.
Follows soon, inspiring awe
a deafening, crackling
resounding peal
from the roiling monster's maw.
The war of the ancients
begins with these cannons
The ultimate savage fury,
the clash of the elements.
Chilling sweeps of rain
curtain the violence..
whipping, ripping
with a rhythm profoundly arcane.
Endlessly they drone
these furies primeval
with Titan strength
to sever limb and shatter bone.
Seeming though endless,
the pace slows down
the forces wearing out
and now appear suppressed.
No victory, nor defeat
yet, the violence wanes.
The expanse lightens
as the mighty warriors retreat.
A shy ray of light
delicately tiptoes
in, caressing.
Then more and more wash into sight.
The heavens above clear
as the darkness
rolls silently away,
still broodingly austere.
Leaving a vista bleak,
a world changed,
yet rejuvenated.
Bearing memories of the havoc that be wreaked.

Roots

I have been gone a long long time
from this land, this air, this life.
Gone from these meadows,
forgotten by the shadows,
hollow heart resounding with strife.

I had all but forgotten this,
this which once I called my own.
Since I did depart
misled by my heart
to wander in yon world alone.

Memories did haunt me yet,
never quite letting me free.
The music of boughs,
a hint would arouse
a strange longing in me.

A whiff of wooded, earthy scent
carried on the mocking breeze,
my blood it burned
my whole being yearned
to return to the comfort of the trees.

So here I am now, returned
from the aimless paths i did roam.
Returned to the meadows
to lurking forest shadows,
where each leaf whispers "home."
